BARC Takes on 2012 ASPCA Rachael Ray $100K Challenge;
Vote in Qualifying Heat April 5th – April 16th

April 3, 2012 – Beginning April 5, 2012, BARC Animal Shelter & Adoptions will be a participant in the Qualifying Heat of the 2012 ASPCA Rachael Ray $100K Challenge. BARC is competing for a chance at more than $500,000 in grant funding, including a grand prize of $100,000. Supporters of BARC can help by voting online at http://votetosavelives.org/ and selecting BARC Animal Shelter & Adoptions. Upon your first vote you will need to confirm your email address for your vote to count, then vote EVERYDAY from April 5th – 16th!

The only way for BARC to get into the $100K Challenge is for you – our community – to vote for us. We need a lot of votes because out of all the shelters vying to get into the Challenge, only 50 are going to be accepted, and they’re the ones with the most votes from their community. During the qualifying period, BARC will offer discounted adoptions to anyone who votes at the BARC facility on 3200 Carr Street. One qualifying vote while you visit BARC means a dog adoption is reduced to $20 and a cat adoptoin is only $10. Now there’s a lifesaving, lifegiving effort before the challenge even begins!

The 2012 ASPCA Rachael Ray $100K Challenge is a nationwide competition for animal shelters and their communities, aimed at getting more animals adopted or returned to their owners than ever before. This first phase is the Qualifying Heat where registered shelters compete to accumulate the most online votes from their supporters. The 50 shelters with the most votes become the official contestants for the 2012 ASPCA Rachael Ray $100K Challenge.

“The ASPCA Rachael Ray $100K Challenge is a great motivator for our team and the residents and businesses of Houston to really get involved – to help connect hundreds of the beautiful, fun, loving cats and dogs in our shelter with the right families,” said Carlene Lormand, Outreach Manager for BARC. “Working together, we will save hundreds of animals and enrich the lives of new adopting families, and we’ll have a chance to win the $100,000 grant which could fund a new Mobile Adoption Center.” Lormand adds, “But first we need Houston’s support in the Qualifying Heat. We have set a goal for at least 80,000+ votes from our community and volunteers to ensure we qualify to compete in the $100K Challenge itself.”

The ASPCA Rachael Ray $100K Challenge is an amazing opportunity for animal shelters all over the country to save more lives and get rewarded for it. It’s a competition that inspires shelters and their communities to come up with innovative ways to save at least 300 more dogs and cats within a three-month period than were saved during the same three months the year before. And BARC could win between $5,000 and $100,000! Our staff and volunteers are raring to take a shot at saving more lives than we ever have before. That’s where you come in.

We need you, Houston, to go to http://votetosavelives.org and vote for BARC Animal Shelter & Adoptions. We need you to vote often—like EVERY day from April 5th – 16th! Send the link to your friends and family members and tell them to vote so we can save more lives. It takes less than a minute and your passion to get us into position to save at least 300 more lives this year… and to win BIG for the animals!

Vote for us every day from April 5 through April 16 at www.votetosavelives.org.
