From the President’s desk

Greeting Neighbors,
Yes! It has been awhile since I last corresponded with YOU– My Neighbors. Just like many of you who are raising kids, and having the pressures of work, home and having a very active family with alllll of their activities, the production of newsletters has slacked off. Therefore, I do apologize and I will try to put out a newsletter at least every quarter to keep you informed of what’s going on in our neighborhood, our community and our district.
Now speaking of what’s going on, I want to discuss the state of Northfield I & II. This newsletter contains the speech that I gave to homeowners back in January where I disclosed some of the major issues we faced in 2013 (Please note that we are still in a state of transition from being self-managed to being managed by a management company – PCMI). Yes, I said it meant learning the rules of the neighborhood again such as: proper trash handling and pick-up dates, deed restriction enforcement and neighborhood assessments deadlines. I emphasized that the overall objective of the Northfield I & II HOA is to maintain the attractiveness of the community, protect and enhance the perception and general property values of the community and keep it a desirable place to call home. I sincerely hope that you are seeing some progress as we are cleaning up and putting homeowners on notice about what we expect as to maintain the integrity of the neighborhood by enforcing deed restrictions. Please know that this is a work in progress as we still struggle with some of these matters from last year. However with the help of PCMI (Kaye Follie, Community Manager) it is my expectation that all neighbors will better understand the goals and objectives of being great neighbors and having a great neighborhood in 2014.
We in Northfield I & II have as a high priority to maintain a SAFE subdivision. One way to accomplish this objective will happen with our 10th year of participation in celebrating National Night Out (NNO). NNO will occur on TUESDAY, OCTOBER 7, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. – 8:30 pm at our Community Clubhouse. (IT IS A MARDI GRAS THEME FOR 2014!). It’s the perfect time to get together and meet your neighbors. For those who are new to Northfield I &II, if you have never heard of NNO, it is a national event celebrated in October here in Houston. National Night Out is an event designed to celebrate neighbors and to learn more about safe neighborhoods. Nationally, last year’s National Night Out campaign involved citizens, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations and local officials from over 16,100 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases worldwide. In all, over 37.8 million people participated in National Night Out 2013. Last year, we in Northfield I & II had about 300 neighbor and friends attend our NNO. And over the 10 years celebrating NNO, we have had Mayor Annise Parker, Congressman Al Green, City Controller Ron Green, State Representatives Borris Miles and Dr. Alma Allen, City councilmembers, Larry Green, Anne Clutterbuck, Melissa Noriega, Jack Christie, Stephen Costello, and Former police chief Harold Hurt come and visit our neighborhood. I want to give Our Constable May Walker a “SHOUT OUT” because she has either attended or has sent a representative for all 10 years!!! Many of you have attended the Northfield I & II NNO events in previous years and expressed what a great time you and your family had in meeting so many great neighbors. Look for additional details about our NNO in this newsletter and announcements around the neighborhood. Let me reiterate, AS I DO EVERY YEAR, WE ARE LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS TO HELP WITH NNO. Please call Barrie Boisseau (832-862-9095) or Crystal Edwards (832-388-1039) if you are interested in helping out. Remember it takes a TEAM to make anything happen….. Let’s have a GREAT TURNOUT and I want to see many of you on October 7th…..
Finally, I want to give another “SHOUT OUT” to a neighbor who we all would like to have. Earlier this month, Rachel E, who lives on the Villa Lea/Creekbend side, not only located a lost credit card near her home but she was also able to return it to its rightful owner. In these times of credit card and identity theft, finding and returning an actual credit card to the owner is very noteworthy. “Atta Girl Rachel”, a good deed done by a good neighbor. Here’s an example of what it means to demonstrate civic pride in Northfield I & II. So again, I ask the question, what are you doing to improve and add value to our Neighborhood? In closing, to those of you who observed Rosh Hashanah (September 24) and are observing Yom Kippur (October3), Day of Atonement, Northfield I &II wishes you a Happy New Year!!!!
