The Brays Oaks Management District continues to demonstrate its commitment to community safety by supporting the “Hydrate the Officers” initiative, spearheaded by the Houston Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association (HCPAAA). This partnership underscores the district’s belief that cultivating strong relationships with the Houston Police Department (HPD) and organizations that support local law enforcement enhances public safety efforts in our community.
Ongoing Support Recognized
In June, the Brays Oaks Management District was honored by the HCPAAA for their generous contributions to the “Hydrate the Officers” program. At the district’s June 18 board meeting, Jeanette Einkauf, representing HCPAAA, presented a certificate of appreciation to the board, acknowledging the significant impact of their support on local law enforcement officers.
Meeting Critical Needs During Challenging Times
Since January, the HCPAAA has distributed an impressive 117 pallets of water to officers across various divisions in 2024 alone. This substantial effort ensures that police officers and first responders have access to essential hydration while on duty, particularly during Houston’s scorching summer months.
During emergencies like Hurricane Beryl, the importance of this initiative became even more evident. Despite many volunteers being without power in their own homes, members of the HCPAAA were actively supporting officers at the Southwest and South Gessner divisions. They assisted in serving food at the stations, coordinated with chiefs and commanders to find businesses with power, and delivered meals to officers on duty. In anticipation of the hurricane, they ensured that officers were well-stocked with water.
While the city provides emergency supplies like MREs and water during such events, two weeks after the hurricane, when those supplies ran low, the HCPAAA was ready to jump into action. They promptly replenished water supplies, demonstrating their dedication to the well-being of law enforcement personnel.
Significant Financial Contribution
The Brays Oaks Management District approved $10,020 in funding for the program at their April 16 board meeting, demonstrating their commitment to supporting law enforcement officers who work tirelessly to keep the community safe. Jeanette Einkauf highlighted how the funding helps HCPAAA purchase water at a reduced cost through a partnership with H-E-B, which supplies pallets of water for just under $200 each.
“Officers can be on a scene for hours, whether it’s searching for a missing person, managing a traffic incident, or responding to other emergencies,” Jeanette emphasized. “Hydration is critical to maintaining their health and performance in such demanding conditions. With our sergeants delivering water to scenes, we ensure that not only the police officers but also firemen, tow truck drivers, and other first responders stay hydrated and safe.”
The Power of Partnership
“The support from organizations like the Brays Oaks Management District is invaluable,” said Jeanette. “Our organization cannot cover the cost of these supplies on our own. Partnerships allow us to continue providing essential resources to those who protect and serve our community.”
