Solid Waste Management Announces
New App – HTX Collects

 
 
Houston Solid Waste Management has launched HTX Collects, a mobile app that will allow residents to stay better connected with the City’s waste and recycling collection programs! In addition to giving residents collection day reminders, the mobile app is full of helpful tools!
 
 

MOCA Grant Cycle is Now Open

 
 
The Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs (MOCA) 2022 Grant Cycle, open to artists, creatives and nonprofits with arts and cultural projects and programs, is here! These grants are funded by the City through a contract with MOCA and the competitive process is facilitated by Houston Arts Alliance (HAA). GRANT OPPORTUNITY FOR ORGANIZATIONS
 
Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs (MOCA) Festival Grant
 
The MOCA 2022 Festival grant is now open! This grant, administered by the Houston Arts Alliance, provides support of up to $10,000 to fund arts festivals or arts components of cultural festivals to celebrate Houston’s diversity and promote the city’s creative identity as a unique art and culture destination. Applications are accepted between Aug. 6 – Sept. 10, 2021 at 5 PM CDT. Get more information on eligibility and how to apply here. You may register for a virtual workshop on Aug. 10 at 10 AM CDT for detailed information about the Festival grant application process. First time applicants are also invited to a special workshop on Aug. 9 at 11 am CDT for help choosing the best grant opportunity. A recording of all workshops will be available on YouTube.

This grant, administered by the Houston Arts Alliance, provides operating funds for organizations who offer arts and cultural activities open to the public. Applications are open from Aug. 6 – Sept. 10, 2021 at 5 PM CDT. Get more information on eligibility and how to apply here. You may register for a virtual workshop on Aug. 10 at 5 PM CDT for detailed information about the SO grant application process. The MOCA 2022 Support for Artists and Creative Individuals (SACI) grant is now open! This grant, administered by the Houston Arts Alliance, provides funds of up to $15,000 for projects that create new works of art or complete work already in progress throughout the city of Houston. Applications are accepted from all artistic disciplines between Aug. 6 – Sept. 10, 2021 at 5 PM CDT. Get more information on eligibility and how to apply here.

Saturday Back To School Events in District K!

 
For many in our district, the first day of school is Monday, August 23. There are still several “Back to School” events happening in and around District K. HBCU Battle of the Bands at NRG!

 
Mark your calendars for a fun-flled and entertaining event! More than 2,000 members from eight of the nation’s top marching bands will celebrate the culture of their universities at the 2021 kickoff to the Fall marching band season. Each band will bring its own unique style and sound to an event created to celebrate, support, and recognize the excellence of Black college marching bands.
 
This year’s band line-up includes:
Bethune Cookman University, Marching Wildcats
Langston University, “Marching Pride” Band
North Carolina A & T State University, The Blue and Gold Marching Machine
Norfolk State University, The Spartan “Legion” Marching Band
Southern University, Human Jukebox
Jackson State University, The Sonic Boom of the South
Tennessee State University, Aristocrat of Bands
Texas Southern University, “Ocean of Soul” Marching Band
