Evelyn Rubenstein Jewish Community Center of Houston and the Plotkin family annually award a Team Houston tennis player the Raymond E. Plotkin Scholarship to play in the JCC Maccabi Games. Benjamin Rozen, 15-year-old son of Ariel and Ira Rozen, who attends Bellaire High School, was named recipient of the scholarship at the Team Houston send- off on July 31.

Elaine and Ronald Plotkin established the award in 2009 to honor the life and memory of their son, Raymond. Raymond passed away when he was 18 years old during his freshman year at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque from complications from swine flu. Raymond loved participating on the JCC Maccabi Tennis Team and representing Houston. He enjoyed the friends he made playing tennis at the J and meeting fellow athletes at the JCC Maccabi Games.
