Westbury Animal Hospital, a cornerstone of the Brays Oaks Management District since 1958, continues to make significant contributions to both the local community and the safety of those who protect it. Renowned for their specialized care for K-9 officers, the clinic has built a reputation as a trusted partner in animal health and a steadfast advocate for the wellbeing of both animals and people alike.
A Legacy of Service and Excellence
Founded by Dr. Cozad in 1958, Westbury Animal Hospital began with a simple mission: to provide exceptional care for animals in the community. Over the years, the clinic has grown, moving into a spacious, state-of-the-art 20,000 square foot facility in 2008. This expansion allowed them to offer full-time emergency services to all clients, a service they have provided around the clock since 2012.
The clinic is now led by Dr. Jeff Chalkley, Dr. Jonathan Cooper, and Dr.L.D. Eckermann, who have been dedicated to its continued success and deep connection with the community. With over 65 years of service, they maintain the same high standard of care that earned them trust in the first place, blending expertise in both general practice and emergency medicine.
Championing K-9 Officers
One of Westbury’s most admirable roles in the community is their partnership with Memorial Hermann Life Flight, providing emergency veterinary care for K-9 officers in Southern Texas. This vital collaboration, which involves only three veterinary clinics across the region, allows K-9 officers to receive prompt, specialized medical attention in life-threatening situations.

The clinic’s reputation for handling K-9 emergencies has grown over the years, and their involvement in high-profile cases underscores their commitment. One such instance involved K-9 Officer “Jorka”, who suffered heat stroke after apprehending a suspect. Thanks to the swift intervention of Westbury’s team, Officer “Jorka” made a full recovery and returned to duty. More recently, they treated K-9 Deputy “Rocky”, brought in via helicopter for urgent care. Their ability to provide timely, skilled treatment has made them the go-to facility for K-9 officers facing critical emergencies.

Community Engagement
Westbury’s commitment to the community extends beyond their medical care. They are proud sponsors of local teams, including Westbury Little League and West University softball. They have also supported the Emery Weiner School’s theater program for nearly a decade.
Dr. Eckermann has been a long-time board member of the Houston SPCA, advocating for animal welfare for over 30 years. Dr. Cooper lends his time to the Houston Pet Set, a foster and rescue organization, while Dr. Chalkley has been involved with the Levitt Pavilion Board for the Willow Waterhole, an initiative aimed at providing free outdoor concerts and promoting arts in the community.
Looking Ahead
As Westbury Animal Hospital celebrates its decades-long legacy of service, it remains deeply committed to the wellbeing of both animals and humans in the Brays Oaks Management District. The hospital continues to embody the values of care, community, and service that have made it a beloved institution. Their unwavering dedication to K-9 officers and the broader community sets them apart as a true local hero, and Brays Oaks is proud to recognize their outstanding contributions.
We encourage everyone to take a moment to appreciate the vital role that Westbury Animal Hospital plays in our community—whether it’s saving the lives of our brave K-9 officers or lending a hand to local causes, their impact is felt every day. Here’s to many more years of exemplary service!
