Preparing for a Potential Tropical System Impact

With Tropical Cyclone Number Six expected to become Hurricane Francine, there’s a possibility it will make landfall between High Island and Lake Charles on Wednesday evening. The National Weather Service forecasts 1-3 inches of rain for Houston, which should be manageable for our city’s stormwater systems.

The City of Houston has been activated since Friday, preparing for potential hurricane impacts. Key actions include:

  • Emergency Management is at level three, with alerts sent to residents.
  • Public Works vehicles are being modified for high-water rescues as a last resort.
  • CenterPoint is preparing for potential power outages, and crews are clearing debris from ditches to prevent flooding.

City departments, including police, fire, solid waste, and emergency services, are on standby to respond if needed.
