The Brays Oaks Management District proudly supported this year’s Houston Police Department (HPD) Back to School Supply Drive, held at the HPD storefront in Gulfton. Despite the rainy weather, the event was a huge success, with more than 900 backpacks distributed to students from elementary through high school.

Community members began lining up as early as 6:30 AM, although the event officially started at 9 AM. This impressive turnout, regardless of the weather, highlighted the community’s commitment to education and ensuring their children were prepared for the upcoming school year. Sheri Cortez, a Board Member of the Brays Oaks Management District, was in attendance and witnessed the remarkable turnout firsthand.

Commander Rubin of the HPD shared his thoughts: “I am always overjoyed to see the support of our community businesses and the outpouring of the community to attend each event we host for South Gessner via our Gulfton Storefront. Despite the rain, we were able to still have a wonderful event where we were able to give out hundreds of backpacks to deserving families. It’s days like today that remind you of the reason you took the oath to serve and positively engage the community. Today was heartwarming.”

The participation of various sponsors and vendors was crucial to the event’s success. Along with the Brays Oaks Management District, other sponsors included AT&T, the Houston Astros, Raising Cane’s, the Houston Dynamo, the District Attorney’s Office, Aguilera Construction, Construction Concepts, the Southwest Management District, Walmart, the Gulfton Citizens Advisory Council, and the Gulfton Management District. Their dedication and support ensured that every child left with essential school supplies.

Tammy Rodriguez, the owner’s agent and Board Chair of the Gulfton Management District, expressed her gratitude: “We are incredibly thankful to all our sponsors and partners who made this event possible. Their support means the world to our community and the children we serve.”

Supporting the HPD in their efforts to bridge the gap between the community and police is an essential part of the Brays Oaks Management District’s mission to drive value to the overall city of Houston. Their contribution played a vital role in making this event possible. This collaboration between businesses, local leaders, and the community is a powerful example of what can be achieved when everyone works together for a common cause.
