Spring has officially sprung, and with it comes a wonderful opportunity to rejuvenate our community! As we welcome April, we’re also marking the beginning of the second quarter of the year—a perfect time for renewal and new beginnings.
What better way to kick off this season of growth and fresh starts than by joining hands to cleanup our community. Keep Houston Beautiful Day in District K was an absolute blast! We couldn’t have asked for a better turnout or a more enthusiastic group of volunteers. Your dedication and hard work truly made it a day to remember.
A huge shout-out to all our amazing volunteers! Your commitment to our community is inspiring. Together, we rolled up our sleeves and made a tangible difference in our neighborhoods. From planting flowers to tidying up parks, your efforts have helped create a cleaner, greener, and more beautiful Houston and District K for everyone to enjoy.
Let’s take a moment to recognize the real MVPs—our District K HOT Team members—who worked tirelessly to ensure everything ran smoothly. You all are the heartbeat and soul of this initiative, and we couldn’t be more grateful for your contributions.
Special thanks to the South Houston Concerned Citizens, University of Houston students, Bellaire High School Honor Society, Westbury Houston Civic Club, The Fountain of Praise volunteers, New Faith Church: Dr. Andre J. Lewis, Senior Pastor volunteers, CenterPoint Energy volunteers, and of course, our dedicated District K staff.

Water Bill Improvement Plan Announced for Houstonians

| Houstonians have been concerned about their water bills and there has been a constant effort to make sure we are sending out correct bills. Yesterday, Mayor Whitmire announced several reforms to prevent erroneous water bills, clean up structural issues within current billing/customer service operations, and ensure that water bills are correct.
Changes include the replacement of all non-functioning remote read devices and installing these devices on the meters that do not have them. This will ensure accurate readings so that bills will no longer be estimated. It is a huge step towards restoring trust and transparency in the system.
This comprehensive approach incorporates components of council member discussions as well as budget amendments that have been presented. We are all looking forward to a fair and more accurate process with these immediate changes.

| Mark your calendars for Saturday, April 13, it’s going to be a blast! There is a fantastic community event lined up where the Brays Oaks trail meets the trail to the Keegan’s Bayou Wildlife Observation Bridge.
There’s something for everyone: various levels of bike rides, a bird-watching walk, a blooms walk, and of course, snacks to keep you fueled up.
Bring your families and join us for a day of adventure in nature!

| Just wanted to give a huge shout-out to Abby Church for highlighting the incredible work our District K HOT Team does day in and day out. Keeping our community clean is no easy feat, but they tackle it head-on with dedication and passion.
Despite being a small team up against the challenge of thousands of litterbugs, contractors, and residents who don’t properly dispose of their waste, our HOT Team continues to push forward. Their commitment to making our district the cleanest it can be is truly commendable.
Let’s show some love and appreciation to Melvin Hopkins and the rest of the District K HOT Team for their swift action against illegal dumping in our neighborhoods. They’re the real heroes behind the scenes.

Crosswalk Safety in District K

We’re giving our district’s crosswalks a fresh look! Crosswalks are vital for safety in several ways:
🛑 Pedestrian Safety: They provide safe spots for pedestrians to cross roads, reducing the risk of accidents with vehicles.
🛑 Visibility: Marked crosswalks enhance pedestrian visibility, especially in low-light or adverse weather conditions.
🛑 Encouraging Walking: Clearly marked crosswalks promote walking and create pedestrian-friendly environments, contributing to public health and better mobility.
Crosswalks are essential for creating safer, more pedestrian-friendly communities.

| The 5 Corners Improvement District is conducting a survey of business owners and managers within to foster collaboration among businesses and strengthen the sense of community. | This project is aimed at minimizing future flood losses and enhancing community resilience. This initiative aligns with disaster relief, long-term recovery, and infrastructure restoration priorities outlined by City Council and HUD-approved Disaster Recovery Action Plans.
Houston Public Works held a Virtual Community Meeting, Thursday, March 28th, about the Spellman Detention Basin project to discuss construction preparation and learn more about this project.

Public Hearings for Proposed New Subdivision Near the Fannin Station

| The Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on a replat application for a proposed subdivision for replat application 2024-0376 Poundbury Sec 1. This hearing is held to comply with Chapter 42; a public hearing must be conducted when a replat application is submitted for a subdivision development. The developer, Fenway Development, is proposing 68 single-family residential lots, and 5 reserves.

New Concrete Panels in Fondren Meadow

| Work Authorization No.2 has been issued to replace damaged concrete pavement panels from 1300 to 1400 La Concha Ln,12300 Fondren Meadow Dr. and 8300 W. Airport Blvd.
Construction has been scheduled to start in early April, 2024, and is expected to be completed end in the summer of 2024.
