Several high-ranking Houston Police Department supervisors were on hand as officers T. Koryciak, O. Thibeaux and J. Murray received official commendations from Council Member Edward Pollard on Thursday for their quick and calm actions following a shooting near Welch Middle School April 12 in which a boy was injured.
Within a minute of hearing gunfire, the officers “sprang into action and responded to the shooting,” the official city document says. “Without hesitation, they rendered aid to the victim, assessed the situation by checking on the welfare of the students and bystanders, and brought calm to a chaotic situation. Their actions that day exemplify the integrity, selflessness, and commitment that HPD has to protect and serve. Thank you for your bravery and job well done. We are grateful for your service.”
