The board of directors of the Brays Oaks Management District today (March 21, 2023) approved $57,000 for 20 automatic license plate reader cameras to be located strategically throughout the district to help locate crime suspects and individuals for whom arrest warrants have been issued.

The cameras, supplied by Flock Safety, will be placed along relatively high-traffic thoroughfares in the District and automatically alert police when they capture images of license plates, and/or other vehicle characteristics, associated with suspected or previously charged criminals.

The use of the cameras in other Houston management districts has led to several arrests.

Funded by an annual assessment on the values of commercial properties, the Brays Oaks Management District spends at least half its funds on public safety programs such as Houston Police Department patrol officers’  overtime pay to focus on potential crime hotspots.
