The Harris County Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Management (HCOHSEM) has selected Everbridge as the new mass notification service provider for its Harris County Alerts system which will now be known as Ready Harris Alerts. Everbridge can send messages via text, email, app, voice calls and social media. It also allows for targeted messaging that can either be sent countywide or solely to areas directly affected by a particular event.
“Having the capability to quickly inform and alert the public is crucial during emergencies,” said Harris County Judge Ed Emmett. “We are always looking for enhanced technology to help improve our emergency response and protect lives and property.”
HCOHSEM has been working to make the transition to the new notification system seamless. To help with this, HCOHSEM is asking residents that are currently subscribed to Harris County Alerts to register for Ready Harris Alerts as soon as possible to make sure that they do not miss any emergency notifications.
“We are extremely proud to be working with the largest county in the state to keep its people safe,” said Jamie Ellertson, CEO of Everbridge. “As we learned from Harvey, Irma, and Maria, communicating quickly and accurately during a storm could mean the difference between life and death.”
