The mission of PAIR (Partnership for the Advancement and Immersion of Refugees) is to empower refugee youth to reach their highest potential by connecting them with college and community volunteers to build positive mentoring relationships and provide educational programs that offer academic enrichment, cross-cultural understanding, and the resources and motivation to pursue higher education and other opportunities. At the same time, PAIR provides its volunteers with leadership opportunities and experiences that increase their understanding of global issues and ability to work with diverse cultures.

PAIR has been fortunate to receive tremendous community support this year, including local and national awards to fund our rapidly growing programs. But in order to continue its growth, PAIR requires matching funds for expansion projects.

When you become a Friend of PAIR, your donation will be matched dollar for dollar up to $30,000. Their goal is to raise at least $10,000 this holiday season to provide critical funding for expansion.

To donate, visit www.pairhouston.org/friendsofpair. More information on what the expansion entails may be found in the Friends of PAIR booklet.

Quick facts:

  • PAIR is serving twice the number of refugee youth in fall 2011 than we served in fall 2010, with twice the number of volunteers.
  • PAIR is operating a greatly expanded summer program and Explorers Saturday program through a partnership with the Neighborhood Centers Inc. Baker-Ripley campus.
  • PAIR Learners after-school program days have tripled in the last year, increasing from two to six per week.
  • PAIR Leaders program added an additional program day each week at Westbury High School and served over 100 students just this fall.
